C. Athena Roussos is certified as a specialist in Appellate Law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization.
Her practice is focused on civil appeals and writs, and law and motion. She has handled numerous appeals in both state and federal appellate courts, and has obtained several reported decisions in favor of her clients. She has represented individuals, businesses, associations, and public agencies in a variety of civil matters.

ADMISSIONS: Athena was admitted to practice in California in December 1997. She is also admitted to practice before all of the federal district courts in California, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
EDUCATION: Athena graduated summa cum laude from Syracuse University College of Law in Syracuse, New York, ranking in the top 2% of her class. She is a member of the Order of the Coif and the Justinian Honor Society, and she was an Associate Editor for the Syracuse Law Review. Athena also attended California State University, Long Beach, where she obtained a B.A. in Political Science, graduating cum laude.
LEGAL EXPERIENCE: Athena began her career at Snell & Wilmer, LLP in Orange County, California, where she learned essential litigation skills in both state and federal courts. She also gained valuable experience handling appeals and writs. After moving to Sacramento in 2001, Athena worked for the city's largest firm, Downey, Brand, Seymour & Rohwer LLP, where she worked in the environmental law group. Athena later joined Jay-Allen Eisen Law Corporation as a senior associate, spending several years focusing almost exclusively on civil appeals and writs.
Athena also taught Appellate and International Advocacy and Global Lawyering Skills at Pacific McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, as an adjunct and a full-time faculty member. She is a member of several community organizations, and has served on several boards, including Women Lawyers of Sacramento, the Appellate Section of the Sacramento County Bar Association, and the Young Lawyers of Orange County. Athena also serves as a court-appointed mediator for the Third District Court of Appeal in Sacramento.
Athena resides in Elk Grove with her husband, Bradley Heller.
